It is likely that you have seen us at various locations around the country, and have seen for yourself, the quality of our oak furniture. Please bear in mind that the furniture that you have seen on our stands is a representation of the furniture that we sell, and due to the natural timbers, no two pieces will be alike, each piece will be unique and have differing grains. Following the care instructions below will ensure that your furniture keeps its beauty for years to come.
Due to the nature of Solid Wood, changes in relative humidity may cause some movement of the timbers and great care has to be taken to ensure that the damage done by this is kept to a minimum; however, it is impossible to completely eliminate this occurrence.
Wood needs moisture but equally, wood also needs to breathe, therefore, please do not place your oak furniture in a conservatory, this will have a detrimental effect on its quality and lead to eventual warping and cracking of the wood. We recommend using Tongue Oil or Danish Oil (available from most DIY centres) on the furniture, as this not only provides the moisture to keep the wood supple, it also allows the wood to breathe. We have found that many commercial products stop the escape of moisture from the wood and therefore the wood warps and distorts very quickly. The Oak should be treated immediately on delivery and then once every 3 months to ensure its quality. Equally, please do not cover your wood with blankets, tarpaulin or sheeting of any kind.

Please bear in mind when you are purchasing Rustic Oak, you are buying handmade furniture where varying degrees of distressing is applied according to the style. This is very much intended and makes each piece individual and unique, giving it that “lived in” look. Accordingly, knots, purpose scratch marks and wood filling is also part of this process.
There may also be a small amount of filler used on our furniture, and this is common; we encourage our suppliers to use fillers on the less noticeable parts of the furniture, however, on some occasions, fillers may be visible.
On rare occasions due to extreme climate changes in shipping, you may find slight swelling on drawers, thus making them stiff to open. It is important not to return or refuse the item if this is the case. Usually, this will rectify itself in a matter of days once the timbers adjust to their new environment and heating conditions. Equally, you may find swapping the drawers will remedy this. However, on rare occasions the timber movements may not settle and you may need to sand or shave a small amount from a drawer or door. If this is the case, please shave from the bottom of the drawer front or from the side of the door as this will not be noticeable with regards to the look of the furniture. Applying Danish Oil will then protect any adjustments made.
Please be aware that you are purchasing natural timber products where slight timber movement in shipping is a slim possibility. Therefore, stiff drawers or doors will not be deemed as faulty or defective. This means that you are purchasing our furniture on the understanding that any necessary, simple adjustments would need to be undertaken by the customer and at the customers’ expense. We also recommend you research all these points with a local specialist to avoid any disputes after purchase.
